Lawmaker Denounces Killing of Mayom Youth in Abyei

Bol Ley, representing Mayom County in the TNLA, strongly condemned the brutal killing of three youth from his constituency in Abyei. Suspected to have been perpetrated by armed youth from Romamer County, the incident highlights ongoing tensions.

Ley emphasized that targeting Bul Nuer youth in Abyei must stop, especially as conflicts between other communities in the area have subsided. He urged Abyei authorities to take action against the perpetrators and prevent further violence, stressing the importance of maintaining peace.

Highlighting the potential for heightened tensions between Bul Nuer and Ngok Dinka communities, Ley called for national government intervention to investigate the matter.

The incident, which occurred on April 28, 2024, adds to previous clashes, including a deadly confrontation in January 2023, underscoring the fragile security situation in the region.
