Yei Joint Stars have been crowned South Sudan National Women’s Cup (SSNWC) champions for the third successive season after beating their title rivals Tiger United of Aweil in the finals.

Rahma Cosmas’s goal in the opening 13 minutes lifted the Super Queen’s morale and spurred celebrations at Buluk Playground.

Sarah Knight added a second goal just three minutes after Cosmas’s goal and it was the goals that separated the two in the first half.

After 56 minutes, Knight finished her brace, bringing the score to 3-0. The outcome brought the Super Queen the third consecutive SSNWC championship.

“I am happy for the win, although we went through a lot of difficult situations during the competition. That is why I set the tears, but I took it with tears of joy,” said Harriet Sony, Yei Joint Stars head coach.

“I thank my players, and I say thanks a lot to them,” she continued. “Our goal as a team is to win, and we play with that mentality in mind.”

Meanwhile, Zakaria Ngor, Tiger United FC’s head coach, congratulated the Yei Joint Stars on their trophy victory.

“In the spirit of sportsmanship, I congratulated Yei Joint Stars for their effort. We played a good game, but Yei Joint Stars are more experienced and far better than us. Yes, they deserve the win, and that is how football is,” Mr. Ngor said.
