The battle for the tickets of the Sudan People Liberation Movement (SPLM) in Western Equatoria State is gathering heat with top contenders eyeing the gubernatorial seat.

The race involves Mboriman Mbori, a youthful politician from Mundri, who has harboured a long-term interest in the state’s top seat.

The other is a veteran lawyer and ex-South Sudanese Bar Association chairperson, James El-Taib, who has made his intentions clear too.

Mboriman and El-Taib appeared in one of the recent events in Great Mundri, attended by the minister and chief executive director in the office of President Joseph Bakosoro.

Addressing the gathering at Mundri’s Women’s Centre, Mboriman reiterated his desire to run for WES governorship.

Mboriman who also introduced El-Taib to the gathering, said he and his party colleague El-Taib had just appeared for greeting but there would be time for them to express what they will do if elected.

El-Taib said it is a great time for the public to know him as her expressed his interest in to top state seat.

When questioned about their motivation for vying for the position given that Dr. Kennedy Ganniko is the state party chairman, Mr. Mboriman said the party will go for the primary elections, including the current Dr. Ganniko.

“I believe in SPLM; we are very democratic and will go for the primary election, and from the primaries, it will be determined who will be the flag bearer should it happen that I am not the one, which I don’t think because I carry all that is needed to be governor,” he said.

He maintained that he had always dreamed of being elected governor one day before the current State SPLM chairperson.

Politician Mboriman added that since he has the dream, it is time to share it with the people.

“A dream is a dream. When you dream, you dream alone and tell your dream to people, but that does not mean you are not a member of that particular family or that you are not living in that house.”

“SPLM is my house, and that is where I sleep; that is where I do my things; and when I am in the house, I dream. So the dream is here, and I am telling them what it is,” Mboriman added.

Mboriman is a politician who has an agricultural advocacy group. He currently owns and operates more than fifty acres in Eastern Equatoria State’s Magwei County.

He announced in Mundri that he would be establishing more than 100 acres (feddans) of farmland in Mundri West County this year, and that an additional 100 acres would be established in Yeri Payam.
