The National Elections Commission revealed plans to visit the 10 states and the three administrative areas to roll out electoral activities.
It will involve inspecting the infrastructure as well as meeting the civil society bodies, faith-based organisations and youth and women.
The spokesperson of the National Elections Commission, George Lemi, the main aim of the exercise is to reconstitute the state election committees.
“We cannot reconstitute state high election committee when we are here in the headquarters so we have members who were there before and some have died, some have become politicians and others have left the country,” he said.
“We want to go and see on the ground, get the reports and then we come back and from there, we reconstitute the committee,” he added.
Earlier this week, the National Elections Commission (NEC) announced that the first phase of voter registration will start in June ahead of the general elections in December 2024.
“We are targeting the registration of voters to take place in June because the law says the registration must begin six months before election time,” said Prof. Abednego Akok, the chairperson of the National Election Commission (NEC).
Akok added that the body was given a modest budget although he promised to reveal the figures later.
He said the NEC requires $230 million to adequately prepare for the polls.
“What has been released or what has been received is a very small sum of money to cover the pre-election activities,” he stated.
