Western Equatoria State Government Condemns Tribal Conflict, Calls for Justice

Western Equatoria State’s government has strongly denounced the ongoing tribal conflict between Tombura and Nagero counties, labeling it barbaric. Minister of Information Isaac Mursal, speaking to the media, emphasized ongoing efforts to apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the violence.

“What transpired in Tombura and along Nagero County roads is utterly deplorable, and as a government, we vehemently condemn it,” Mursal stated. “We’ve alerted all security forces in the region to pursue and apprehend those responsible.”

He issued a stern warning to individuals resorting to vigilante justice, urging them to seek legal recourse and foster unity instead.

Last week, the conflict reignited in Tombura, resulting in casualties and property destruction, forcing over 9,000 vulnerable individuals, including women and children, to seek refuge in UNMISS camps. Additionally, on Saturday, a parish priest and his driver were abducted along the Nagero-Tombura road.
