A Member of Parliament representing Lafon County in the Eastern Equatoria State, Likali Olum, accused the area commissioner, Magisto Ukach, of favouritism, saying that he only appoints those who are affiliated to the SPLM-IG.

Olum, who hails from SPLM-IO, claimed that some of his colleagues have been hounded out of positions and replaced by SPLM-IG adherents.

He blamed the commissioner for abusing local government laws by removing chiefs in the area and replacing them with those deemed to be supporting the ruling party.

“Last year or early this year, the commissioner of Lafon has been playing with the law, especially the local government act or the local government law at the county level, by dismissing chiefs, including the active paramount chief… if at all there is any problem he committed or his tenure in the office has come to an end, he is to be replaced by the community,” he argued.

He added, “I also remember the director for education because of his political sympathy, he was decreed out just because of being an IO member. So, this issue of politicising positions in Lafon must stop if the commissioner wants to be commissioner of the people.”

He also accused the commissioner of politicising the county health sector, which he says should be free from interference of any nature.

“The county health department’s employment is being politicised … if the qualification of getting the job in Lafon is by being an SPLM …then this is a big blow to the civil population,” he said.

Ukach denied the accusations saying the employment is normally made through the legal procedures by the public service and his office has nothing to do with it.

“I am not the HR; each organisation has their policy and the HR policy is implemented by organisations. I have got nothing to do with the employment of my party members to the organisations even just a mere recommendation of my party members to organisations,” he said.
