The Deputy Governor of Western Equatoria State, Dr Kennedy Gaaniko said South Sudan’s push to hold an election in December 2024 remains on course.

Addressing a gathering at Ibba County during the launch of the Kuyango Bridge, Gaaniko stressed the importance of the elections in empowering the people to choose their leaders through a democratic process.

He underscored the necessity of ending the prevalent practice of political appointments based on various “decrees”.

“The December 2024 election will be a crucial moment for our region as it will allow the citizens to actively participate in the electoral process and select their representatives,” Gaaniko said.

“By enabling the populace to elect their leaders, we aim to bring transparency, accountability, and enhanced governance to our communities,” said Gaaniko.

The deputy governor’s statement mirrored a deep commitment to democratic principles and the fundamental right of individuals to choose their leaders.

“The upcoming election is not just about filling leadership positions; it is about empowering our citizens to have a say in the direction of their communities and their nation.”
